in November, I had a great growing experience. A college being built in Missoula, MT, put out a call for art. I felt that the folks calling for the art were really open to ideas and flexible, which gave me the freedom to think large and creatively.
I was fully inspired and felt the only way to get across my ideas was to prep a few "example" which also pushed me to create work I could stand behind proudly. Click to see the 3 pieces and read about my proposal!
A multi level mural that would appear in each elevator entrance- each floor showing a different stage in an Osprey's flight/dive.
The ground floor, next to the river and the culinary arts program, would feature the osprey catching his fish. From there, each level would feature the Osprey in a different place, progressively getting higher in the sky. Also, each painting would attemp to match the 'vibe' of the floor, based on what classrooms etc we're going to be on it.
Like most things in art, I don't know if this will lead anywhere. The selection committee is still processing everything and making decisions, and I have a feeling they received some seriously astounding proposals. But I am grateful I had the chance to make these 'sketches' and think creatively about art in a specific place.
