When you approach a canvas,
you must come to it with confidence and trust.
Quiet the criticisms in your own mind
"I'm no good"
"I can't do this"
"Will anyone like this?"
Quiet those criticisms and instead believe,
"I know what marks to make"
"I do this for myself"
"No matter how it turns out, it's not a waste of time"
Because you are making art, because bringing something into the world that did not previously exist, because you're hands and heart and mind move together, is NEVER a waste of time, effort or materials.
When end you approach a blank canvas, begin with one mark. Than another, than another. Approach it with confidence and trust. All you've learned, all you know, you can use. And you may just end up learning more, knowing more, and using more.
